I don't talk slow, it's called a drawl.

40 shirts, over 20 skirts and shorts, 10 pairs of pants and countless shoes/tshirts later I am finally moved in and on my own here in LA. Within an hour of being here I received my first, eh, compliment that I talk slow. I guess a southern drawl is not as respected as it is down south. Aside from that, I am very grateful for a father who was very patient in helping me lug all of my things across the country, figure out how to work this city, and then leave me with confidence that I was going to succeed in my west coast endeavors.

Dad and I leaving Birmingham (United Airlines) and heading west.

While dad was still here we did typical touristy things since it was his first trip out to LA. Staying in Santa Monica, we spent a lot of time in the Promenade and Pier area occasionally making excursions to Westwood (to move things into my apartment), Hollywood, and Beverly Hills. And for those of you who are wondering, yes, we did ask for sweet tea at every meal in hope that someone would say that they served it. Our only success was at McDonald's (which I never eat at). I have made countless trips to McDonald's since my arrival for the sole purpose of sweet tea.

A few bizarre things i've learned in my short time here: You have to pay for bags when you go grocery shopping (ex: Target). The city banned plastic bags, so it is either bring your own reusables or pay for paper… which translates in my mind to no more "lets pile all of the plastic bags up my arm to get these groceries inside in only one trip". The water here is… different. This is going to be a bottled water summer for this girl, too bad my shower can't produce it. Lastly, the bus is not sketchy. In alabama, taking a bus is an adventure, most of the time a bad one, but here it is efficient, affordable, and very easy to maneuver.

My first day of work is tomorrow, so keep an eye out for another post in the next few days. I will try to have something a little more exciting next time.

Bless their hearts,
Kendall
